MCP Install
Add SpecBird to your agent
Connect the SpecBird MCP server to your coding agent for instant access to all 34 API operations as tools. Auth is handled via OAuth 2.1 — no manual token pasting required for supported clients.
https://mcp.specbird.com/mcpOAuth 2.1 authentication
Supported clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code) authenticate automatically via OAuth 2.1 + PKCE — a browser opens for a one-time login, then the client manages token refresh. No API key is required. PATs are a fallback for clients that do not support OAuth.
Add to ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json.

}
}
}Claude Desktop supports OAuth 2.1 discovery automatically — it will open a browser to authenticate with SpecBird. If your version does not yet support OAuth, add a PAT header as the fallback.
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json.

}Cursor negotiates OAuth 2.1 via the discovery docs. A browser will open to authenticate. Fallback: add a PAT header.
Add to .vscode/mcp.json.

Add to Cline MCP Settings (UI).

}Cline uses legacy SSE transport. Add a PAT via the Cline extension's MCP settings panel (Cline does not yet support OAuth 2.1 DCR).
Get a PAT at specbird.com/account/pats.
Any MCP client that supports streamable-http or sse works. The server serves both transports.

For clients without OAuth DCR support
Register a client manually via the https://mcp.specbird.com/oauth/register endpoint (RFC 7591), then follow the PKCE authorization flow.
Or create a PAT at specbird.com/account/pats and pass it as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PAT.

Stateless: each request is independent — no MCP session state is preserved.
Errors: RFC 9457 application/problem+json errors from the API surface as MCP CallToolResult with isError: true.

CLI install
Use the SpecBird CLI to search and install specs in any project without an MCP-compatible agent.
Install
npm install -g @specbird/cli
# or
pnpm add -g @specbird/cliUsage
# Search the registry
specbird search "multi-tenant auth with teams"
# Install a spec into your project (writes to docs/specbird/)
specbird install @specbird/auth-system
# Install a specific version
specbird install @specbird/billing-stripe@1.0.0
# List installed specs
specbird listDownload / unzip fallback
Without the CLI, download a spec as a zip archive and unzip it into docs/specbird/ in your project:
# Download zip
curl -L https://api.specbird.com/v1/specs/@specbird/auth-system/versions/latest/download \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PAT" \
-o auth-system.zip
# Unzip into project
unzip auth-system.zip -d docs/specbird/This produces the same layout as specbird install — identical output, no CLI required.
